PEMBERDAYAAN PETANI KUBIS DI KECAMATAN NAMAN TERAN KABUPATEN KARO
Abstract
Naman Teran Subdistrict produces cabbage vegetables covering an area of 405 hectares, with cultivation for three months and marketed to international markets such as Malaysia, Singapore and Japan, as well as domestic markets to Medan and Aceh. The number of cabbage farmers was 7,511 farmers in 2014, there was an increase until 2017 as many as 9,576 farmers. Farmers are only interested in income and do not predict what the supply chain is, which affects the price of cabbage. In this case, the number of farmers is increasing and the price of cabbage is not fixed and the harvest area is fluctuating. As a result, the price of cabbage at the farmer is getting cheaper.
The research objective was to provide an overview of the cabbage marketing system in Naman Teran District to the Farmer Group, so that farmers were able to produce quality cabbage with high selling value. And provide continuous coaching from the relevant agencies, through seminars, outreach, training and empowerment in the form of explaining the objectives of the cabbage supply chain training to help overcome the unanswered cabbage price problem for the last four years. With the approach method of Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and descriptive.
This training and empowerment is guided by an implementing team of teaching staff from the Department of Management, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Quality University by involving the roles of farmer groups (Poktan) and individual farmers. The conclusion from this community service activity is very beneficial for cabbage farmers. Increase farmers' understanding of the cabbage supply chain, and farmers can choose the appropriate chain, according to the price chosen by farmers, so that farmers cannot be disadvantaged by second and third parties.
