Abstract

In current developments the word illiteracy is defined as the inability to read and write at a good level to communicate with other people, or to the extent that a person can convey his ideas in a literate society, so that he can become part of that society. With this Illiteracy Eradication program, researchers better understand what the obstacles are. So, the researchers made a project with Snakes and Ladders Media and used the Tekati Method (Guess the word and count). The purpose of this study was to determine the obstacles in teaching children who are still illiterate in Jalan Kopi, Medan Tuntungan District, Medan City, North Sumatra. From this research, it is known that children who are still illiterate are due to busy parents on Jalan Kopi, Simalimgkar so they cannot take the time to teach or educate children, and reading difficulties can be influenced by the condition of the brain that is not able to process language and the visual reasoning center. With this community service research solution, we researchers can solve the problem so as to produce a way out of this illiteracy, namely by providing teaching or courses for the child.
