Abstract

COMMUNICATION STRATEGY OF THE MEDAN CITY FIRE DEPARTEMENT IN ENHANCING PUBLIC AWARENNES OF FIRE PREVETION ABSTRACT Fire is a serious problem in urban areas, including Medan City, and is mostly caused by human negligence. Therefore, the communication strategy of the Medan City Fire Department plays an important role in increasing public awareness of fire prevention. This study aims to examine the communication strategies implemented by the Medan City Fire Department to enhance community awareness of fire prevention.This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that communication strategies are implemented through face-to-face socialization, counseling, visual media, fire simulations, the establishment of fire volunteer groups (REDKAR), and the use of digital media. However, these strategies have not been implemented evenly and continuously. Public awareness generally remains at the levels of knowledge and attitude and has not been fully reflected in preventive actions.
